The Mannahatta Tribe is an extended family with members living outside the cattery.  Because each kitten has been bred with love, it always remains  "our baby, "  and we are delighted to receive news of our cats from their new homes and to share their pictures and stories with you.

Sultan made himself gregariously at home in The Corens' KC Katz Cattery in West Redding, CT, where he presided as resident stud, show champion, and Big Beloved Baby! After an auspicious kitten career, Sultan began his first Championship  season.  He quickly became a CFF Grand Champion and went on to earn his Grand Champion title in AACE in December 1999, and that of AACE Regional Winner (18th Best Cat) for the 1999-2000 season.  On January 4, 2000, he became a Dad, (and SunDance and Hopi grandparents) siring four beautiful kittens, two of whom. KC Katz Madison Alexander and KC Katz Fiona also showed in AACE!  He since fathered several more beautiful litters before retiring (as an alter) to live with a nearby family friend, Scott Bachmann, and he continues to be the king of the household!

 When she was three months old, Mardigras flew with her human, Liz Kelly of  Kellycats, to their new home in Georgia.  She made her show debut in May 1999, a rare smoke tortie, winning kitten Best of Breed and Second Best Allbreed awards.  She began her championship career at CFA's Athens, GA show, where she earned her first title and took a Second Best Allbreed Cat..  Mardigras is now retired from show and breeding and has been placed in a new, nearby loving, only-cat home.

Named for the artist Jasper Johns and for the exotic pale blue color of Bombay Gin, Jasper Bombay, makes his home with Mary Rafferty and Majdi Haroun in Morris Plains, NJ, where he takes charge of the couple's other feline, Mannahatta's Annabel Mashpee Lee and mourns the recent passing of his friend, household pet Bailey! Jasper has showed successfully in TICA and AACE, earning his Grand Championship and 12th Best North Atlantic Regional Alter in AACE for the 2000-2001 season!  Now retired, he has plenty of time to be a full-time "mush."

Linda Collier of the Collier Cattery in Aberdeen, MD, fell in love with our little blue boy--(the smallest in the litter then, ultimately over 18 lbs.!)--aptly named him, and gave him a loving home with her show Persian and Bengal cat and two Bouvier des Flandres siblings,  Crunch 'n Munch and Nika, who acted as Puff's "groomer."  Puff'n Stuff made an impressive show Alter debut n TICA in January & February 2000, taking numerous Breed ribbons, and he earned his Champion title at the York, PA, TICA Regional show in July, with a Third Best Allbreed Alter!  In November 2004, without warning, he fell gravely ill and passed away after a week of intensive care, the diagnosis that of Erlichia ( a tick-borne infection), follwed by  hepatic liver and pancreatic complications.  He was an endearing lap cat and an irreplaceable companion, and we are all devastated by his premature crossing.

He likes being an only-cat and "King of the Castle," though he enjoys visits from his other family,  Marc, Jill, and Zachary, Labbancz.   His "mom" says he is just like a big puppy!  A professional wedding photographer, she posted this lovely shot on her website.

"Riley" has been given one of the family names by Danielle Bercaw, with whom she has a happy home in Washington, DC.  Playful, animated, and affectionate, she has "trained" her person to play fetch and to let her sleep on her head at night.  Accustomed to her bathing-grooming routine, she has modeled for her first professional pictures in January 2000.  A highly social cat, she loves the companionship of her half-brother from Hopi and SunDance's third litter, and is "always the life of the party."

For many years she enjoyed the company of the family's Maine Coon mix, Ariel, whom she loved to "mother."  Sadly, Ariel passed away at age twenty in February 2006, and Scarlett misses her friend.  Scarlett was a gift to the Mrs. Mayurnick and her late husband, Peter, from their daughter and co-owner, Sandra, and she is a warm, loving companion to the whole family.

"Rocky" lived with Riley, his older half-sister, in the home of Daneile Bercaw in Washington, DC.  He loved his walks on a leash, his catnip treats,
and partying with family and friends.   His "mom" called him the "Christmas Kitty" because he is always wide-eyed and full of wonder--
on complete overload--on Christmas morning.  In his last year, he was diagnosed with stomach cancer, and passed peacefully in his mom's arms
 after a short illness.

Argent, (pronounced in the British fashion), lived in the Laurie home in Trenton, NJ, until his very sad sudden passing in July 2004.  The only information we have been provided is that he experienced "a liver problem." We are seeking answers that may give us some
consolation and closure.

Wesson lived in Canada at Jim Atkinson's Wasychigan Cattery, where he joined not only Jim's other felines, but also Mannahatta tribe members, "Whipper" and "Ruger." Wesson championed at his first Canadian Cat Association (CCA) show this March, and he sired three "rainbow" litters before "retiring" to the status of pampered pet.  Ever-friendly, he became the official greeter and schmoozer for the cattery visitors. leaving his daughters to make him a proud grandparent!  He passed away quietly in his favorite chair just before Christmas, having suffered liver complications from some antibiotic therapy.  Happily his line continues, not only at Wasychigan, but also at the Carstutz Cattery, where his grandson Merlin, has just sired his first litter!

Sitarra, the first-born of this litter, has joined the breeding-show programme of Croton Coons, the Staten Island-Texas cattery of Dave Francis and David Gray.  She has happily ensconced herself in her Staten Island home without a show of tortitude! She became a Mom for the first time (with Sarajen Stryker of Croton as sire) at the end of March 2002, birthing six beautiful kittens. Her son,  Croton's Nate, will continue to make his home at Croton Coons.  Last year's litter gave to Mannahatta her and Stryker's daughter, Croton Harpswell of Mannahatta, and she continued to produce beautiful babies until 2007, when she was spayed and now lives the life of leisure in Texas with her owners.

Named for the Northwestern Native American tradition, this second tortie girl now lives happily with the Rowley family in Ridgewood, NJ.   Snoqualmie made her kitten debut in AACE in March 2001, and at her second show in May, she finaled four times, earning one BEST KITTEN.  She began the new season by becoming an AACE CHAMPION in December 2001 and a QUADRUPLE CHAMPION in May, and was honored as a 2001-2002 REGIONAL WINNER (14th Best Mid Atlantic Alter and Best of Breed)!  Retired now from showing, she enjoys the leisurely pleasures of domestic life, among them "finding great excitement in the second hand of the family clock and being the best lap cat!"

A constant companion to his purrsons, Geoffrey sleeps on the pillow, drinks from a glass,  takes whirlpool baths, and operates on the premise that all household items are toys!  Geoffrey also maintains that there "has never been a human being he has not liked."  His human companions find him "the most affable cat anyone has ever known, one who thinks he is a person!"

Naming her both for the Native American tradition and for the famous actress with an attitude, Talulah joined Rob and Karen Fleming's Maine Coon breeding and show programme at Quinsigamond Cattery in North Grafton, MA..  "Lula" has endeared herself with her kisses and antics, talents she displayed at her TICA show debut, where she schmoozed the judges, practiced jumping from the table to her humans' shoulders, and found time to final twice, earning one BEST KITTEN!  In December 2001 Talulah gave birth to her first litter of five, sired by Codycats Nashoba of Quinsigamond, and after retiring from the show ring and motherhood, now makes her home with the Flemings' cousin, Lois Eurenius of Auburn, MA.

Named for his quiet and affectionate dignity, Thomas has settled comfortably into the Chapel Hill, NC, home of the Lee family.  He made a sensational AACE show debut as an alter , finaling in every ring and earning his Championship, and he was working toward his Grand, scoring high enough to become an AACE National and Regional Winner ( 13th Best National Alter/ 12th Best Regional Alter, Best of Color, 2nd Best of Breed), before moving South with his family.

Uniquely beautiful, loving, and beloved, Felix succumbed to complications of surgery for an interssuseption, suffered after he had ingested sewing thread in the home of his new family.  We cherish the gift of his brief life.  On the day that his family adopted another Mannahatta kitten, a single white rose burst into bloom above Felix's memorial marker, assuring us all that this silvery, sparkling kitty angel smiles on us still.

Big, red, and beautiful, he embodies his father's spirit.

Simon made his home with Ron and Joan Melanson and Mannahatta's Sophie, as well as their Silver Classic Tabby American Shorthair, Max, and their Labrador Retriever puppy in Whitehouse Station, NJ.  He was later joined by new twin humans, whom he adored.  A big snuggly furball who commanded affection from all and gave in equal measure, he passed away from complications of IBD, leaving an immeasurably emptiness in the family.

Named to join the feline duo of Kaos and Mayhem, Mr. Mischief will be the first Maine Coon in the home of Ken, Sandie, and Kylie Taylor of Ledyard, CT.  The Taylors breed Munchkins, showing them and their Household Pets, and Ken is a Allbreed Judge in AACE.   Mr. Mischief' made his show debut as a kitten in AACE, finaling in seven out of eight rings and showing off his playful temperament and went on to gain a BEST KITTEN at his second show!  He began his adult career as an Alter in November 2002, earning his AACE CHAMPIONship and one BEST CAT, a special feat given his tender age!  At his third adult show he became an AACE GRAND CHAMPION and recently qualified as a TRIPLE GRAND CHAMPION!  In March 2003 he was honored as an AACE NATIONAL and REGIONAL WINNER (7th Best Kitten and Best of Breed Kitten), and in March 2004, he was named AACE 5th Best National Alter, Best of Color and Breed.  He received his third AACE NATIONAL & REGIONAL award in March 2005: 9th Best Alter, Best of Breed & Color.  He also made his CFF debut, earning his Championship in that association, and was named BEST BLACK SMOKE ALTER of the 2003-2004 YEAR, and the Senator's trophy at the Cheshire Cat Club Show in November 2005.

Named for the noble Roman and nicknamed for the Italian river Tiber, Tiberius makes his home with Kristen Landon and her family in Glen Ridge, NJ.  His furry companions are feline Francesca and canine Keeshound.  He has a super appetite and even loves to try to share the family dinner, and once bounded from atop the cabinets into the plates.  He also likes to demonstrate his dominence by play-ambushing the others from the cat tree, and as his latest portrait shows, feels himself quite the wild thing!

Whipper flew safely to Toronto on April 11 to join Jim Atkinson's breeding programme.  She promptly made friends with kitten Skye, two weeks her senior and Wesson, her Mannahatta tribesman, who came two months later.  At her first CCA show in September, she not only championed, but received a Best of Breed and 4th Best Cat, praised by the judge as "too exceptional a female to pass over"!  Her first litter, sired by Koontucky Remington of Wasychigan, was born early in 2001, and she gave birth to two litters in March of 2003 and 2004 respectively.  Her daughters Skipper and Silken as well as her granddaughter Flipper, three smokes, carry on her line at Wasychigan.

Truffle made himself at home with the Spina Family and their twoother felines in Bellmore, NY, where for six years he was their pride and joy.  He collapsed suddenly at home and after efforts to save him proved futile, the painful decision to let him go was made.

Named for the American Indian word for "spirit," Chepi joins George and Kathy Huber and their other pets in their Jackson, NJ, home.  He has become acquainted with the species "DOG" -- a White German Shepherd -- and loves to play with his feline companion Sasquasch.  Together they wrestle, climb ladders (!) and are fascinated by the acquarium.   He is a very "laid back" baby, according to his family.

Bohdan, whose name means "God's Gift" in Russian, lives with Joanne and Susan Crosby in Brooklyn, NY.  Before retiring to pampered pet status, Bohdan had a hugely successful show career!  He competed in his first TICA show on Ocrtober 6-7, 2001, and as the youngest Maine Coon kitten there, he finaled once and took four breed wins! At his first AACE show he received five BEST KITTENs and finaled in the three remaining rings, finishing as BEST OF THE BEST!  At his second he finished THIRD BEST OF THE BEST, again receiving a BEST KITTEN!  At his last  AACE kitten show, he received six BEST KITTENs and finished as BEST OF BEST KITTEN IN SHOW!  He earned the title of AACE CHAMPION at his first show as an adult and won a BEST CAT in his very first ring!  In May he became an AACE GRAND CHAMPION and in July at his first adult TICA show he became a TICA CHAMPION and won a BEST CAT!  In March was honored as an AACE NATIONAL and REGIONAL WINNER both as a kitten and as an adult!  He placed as 8th Best Kitten and 2nd Best of Breed Kitten; 10th Best National Cat, 9th Best Regional Cat, and 3rd Best of Breed!

Toby joined Mannahatta's Hannah at the home of Robin Ranahan and Ron D'Angelo.  He greatly misses "Mom Robin," who sadly passed away in July 2002, but tries to keep "Dad Ron" and Hannah company.  Despite Hannah's "tortitude," the two have become fast friends and enjoy all that nature offers in their Pochono Mountains home.

Ophelia made the long voyage to Nagoya, Japan, on Spetember 10, 2001, and then on from there to the Earthmoss Cattery in Matsusaka-shi, where she has joined Eiko Aburaya's Maine Coon breeding-show programme.  Eiko welcomed her beautiful new baby to her home on September 27th, where Ophelia joined three other female Maine Coons and one stud male, as well as Eiko's Somali cats.  Ophelia became a CFA Champion in March and a TICA Champion in June!

Madison has become 'First Kitty" in the home of Mark and Laurie Berenson of Park Ridge, NJ.  Shortly after their wedding, the couple found her a a playmate: a black shorthair, Mystic, who has become her fast friend.  Enjoying "being front and center," she recently posed for a photo contest with this shot.  She welcomed the new human additions to the family, frequently serving as nanny and baysitter, though occasionally appropriating the bouncy seat and kiddy tub!

Nichemis, which is the Native American word for "Little Sister" will join Mannahatta's Chepi in the home of the Hubers in Jackson, NJ.  "Nicki" made her kitten debut in AACE on November 2, 2002, finaling in four out of five rings and earning one BEST KITTEN at four months old!  She was named an AACE National and Regional Kitten Winner for 2004 (  11th Best National Kitten, 8th Best Regional Kitten, Best of Color, 2nd Best of Breed)!  She is less enamored of the new White German Shepherd than is her brother, and tries to show him who is boss!

Named for the serendipity of seven for her new family, Seven-of-Six joins the Baackes in their Johnstown, PA home.  Her nearby friend and neighbor is Mannahatta's Ebony.  Seven serves as a lap warmer and able office assistant to her family; she can print laser copies, fax, and make conference calls!  She loves playing hide-and-seek and helping with the watering of plants, and at night she sleeps like a baby under the covers IN bed with her humans!

Pocasset joined the Quinsigamond Cattery in North Grafton, MA; our friends, Karen and Rob Fleming enjoyed showing her as a champion. She made a lively kitten debut in TICA in October 2003, and went on to take ten finals at seven months of age, finishing as BEST MAINE COON KITTEN and 5th BEST of BEST KITTEN!  She finished the 2003-2004 TICA show season as 17th BEST REGIONAL KITTEN and Northeast Region's BEST BLACK SMOKE MAINE COON! She then joined her brother, Mannahatta's Moosebec, on the show circuit as an adult, earning her first BEST CAT and becoming a TICA CHAMPION in April 2004.  Now spayed, she makes new home with Priscilla Beggesen in nearby Massachusetts, where she is the family's "Pet Pal," charming them with her "meow-speak."

He became a CFF Champion in September 2004 and an AACE Grand Champion in January 2005, earning numerous BEST ALTERs!  He was named an AACE NATIONAL & REGIONAL WINNER in March 2005 as 6th Best Kitten, Best of Color, and again in March 2006 as 5th Best National Alter, Best of Breed & Color!

Lakota makes his home with Lynn Van Duyne of Hamburg, PA.  He joins Lynn's two other Maine Coons, Mannahatta's Carbon Copy and Stacalone's Coati Bearresistible.  Lakota plans to have a show career and contribute to Mannahatta's stud programme before enjoying life as an Alter. He debuted as a kitten in April 2004, claiming two AACE BESTs! He became an AACE Champion in August 2004, a CFA Champion in January 2005, and has begun the granding process.  In March 2005 he was named AACE Great Lakes Regional Best Kitten and an AACE NATIONAL WINNER as 10th Best Kitten, Best of Color! On May 6, 2005, he became an AACE Grand Champion, bestowing on his mother, KittyUp Hopi of Mannahatta, the coveted title of Grand Dam.  In March 2006 he again received an AACE NATIONAL WINNER award as 20th Best National Cat, Best of Color., and again in 2007 was AACE's 20th Best National Cat and Best of Color, as well as 10th Best Great Lakes Region Cat and Best Regional Maine Coon!

Amber lives with Angie Stephens of Whitinsville, MA, and her two other household pets, Charlie and Squirt.  Because she is extrosyndactylic,  she will show as a Household Pet; she made her debut as a kitten in AACE in April 2004, finaling in every ring and continued at her second show with great success!  At her first asult show, she finaled six times and was named SECOND BEST HHP in SHOW!  She was named AACE's 4th BEST HHP KITTEN for 2003-2004.  Amber is a big, outgoing girl who holds extensive conversations with anyone who will listen!   She also works as a blood donor, saving many patiuents' lives at the Tufts Veterinary Clinic, where Angie works.

Ivana, named for the lifestyle she intends to enjoy, makes her home with Krista Dieckamp in Jersey City, NJ.  She also enjoys the company of Krista's Rhodesian Ridgeback, Barkley, and her new feline friend,  Wednesday.  She sleeps with him, grooms him, and keeps him from being lonely when "Mom Krista" is at work.  Krista likes to think "dog got cat" as a companion!  Ivana made her debut at AACE's Cheshire cat Club Show in November 2004, winning Best Longhair Kitten in Show!  She continued on the show circuit as an Alter, earning her AACE Championship on March 5, 2005, and her Grand Championship on October 29, 2005!   She received an AACE NATIONAL WINNER award in March 2006, 6th Best National Kitten, Best of Breed & Color and 9th Best National Alter, 2nd Best of Breed, Best of Color!

Lady Shawnee, whose nickname is "Vilma", made the long journey to Finland in April, accompanied by her new family, Sinikka Sarkkinen and her husband Jussi.   She joins the Sarkkinens' other Maine Coon, Welmut, and their three Persians. Shawnee plans to have a show and breeding career, as well as a vocation as "princess."  She has begun both effectively, earning praise at her first FiFe kitten show for her lovely type and beautiful presentation, and learning quickly how to boss her housemates about!  She also keeps "Mom" Sinikka attentive by nipping her fingers in the early morning to announce a wake-up/feed-me call!  "Vilma" delivered her first at the end of April 2006--three beautiful babies--and like her parents, she proved to be an excellent mother!  All three beautiful babies are now in happy homes. She earned her European Championship in 2006.  Her son took a Best in Variety and 
Second Best in Show in Finland!  She delivered her second litter of five in November 2007, one of whom, a black smoke boy will reside with the family.

Kerkeselin made the long journey to Calgary, Canada, to join the family of Ruth Sogz and her Purryderoc Cattery.  Quite serendipitously, his intended when it comes time to breed, is named "Raven," like his own mother!  At his first TICA kitten show, he proved himself his father's son, taking naturally to the show ring, and winning numerous finals!   Debuting as an adult in Edmonton in March 2006, "Logan," as he is nicknamed, became a One-Show TICA Grand Champion!  He was also named TICA's 2006 BEST BLACK SMOKE MAINE COON!  For the 2007 TICA season he was named 19th BEST LH CAT in the North West Region, and on March 29, 2008, he achieved the rank of TICA SUPREME GRAND CHAMPION!  He has sired four spectacular litters at Purryderoc and one for neighboring RowanRidge Cattery!

Pushkin lived his brief life happily with the family of John and Lisa Martin in Short Hills, NJ, where he enjoyed the company of the couple's other feline and their two children, Brianna and Nathaniel.  Brianna selected his name, inspired by her favorite Russian poet. He loved playing soldiers with Nathan and snuggling with everyone.  Though he had just passed a complete health screening with flying colors (including cardiac testing), he passed away in his sleep, the cause undetermined.

He championed in AACE at his first adult show and is working toward granding. Together with "Coati," he is doing his best to keep him newly widowed "mom" company and mourns the passing of their beloved Frank Van Duyne. In March 2003 he became an AACE NATIONAL and REGIONAL WINNER for his kitten career (17th Best National Kitten and Best Great Lakes Region Kitten) and a REGIONAL WINNER for his adult competition, and for 2004 he was the Great Lakes Region's  2nd Best Alter, Best of Color,  and 2nd Best of Breed!
